I said goodbye to my sweet Winnie girl this past weekend. It was completely heartbreaking after only 6 years together, but it was the most compassionate thing I could have done for her...on Mother’s Day, no less. She was the most loving dog I’ve ever known. She absolutely adored Everly and was constantly trying to kiss her, smell her, nose her, nudge her, etc. That’s how she operated - she was ALWAYS in the mix, looking for affection and attention at all times from any living, breathing being she could find. Aside from @bogartthedog, she only had one other dog friend in our neighborhood, but SO many people friends. She was always befriending strangers on the street (which I didn’t enjoy late at night 😂) but she couldn’t be stopped from wagging her whole body and inviting interactions. Winnie’s greatest legacy began on September 4th, 2014, when she jumped into the East River in Williamsburg to swim after birds that were WAY out in the water. I almost had a heart attack because I was sure she would get swept away right in front of me. She made it back, covered in literal shit and happier than I’d ever seen her. On our way home, Winnie pulled up to the cutest shar-pei puppy and even cuter owner. Sparks flew for all 4 of us. If it weren’t for Winn, I never would have met @jonbravo and created this family I love so much. To say I’ll miss her immensely is a huge understatement, but my heart is bigger after loving her.
Thank god this yoga practice allows us to show up on the mat while feeling broken, frustrated, sad, lonely...the list goes on. If we had to be calm, grounded and sane, no one would be able to practice. I’ve been quietly dealing with the heartbreak of watching my sweet dog, Winnie, decline from a terminal kidney disease. She was my first pup as an adult, and became my first child, of sorts. Our almost 7 years together were far too few, but we packed that time with so much love and adventure. If you know Winn, you know she only really loved one or two dogs and she’s mostly a people-person. If you’re one of Winnie’s people, please hold her in your thoughts tomorrow afternoon as we say goodbye to each other. I plan on showing up for practice in the coming days with a heavy heart, but comforted by the fact that this practice always helps to heal.

Definitely still on the mend from this gnarly situation, but I’m back in action again starting tomorrow morning at 7am at my favorite yoga studio in LA, @roamlosangeles 💗 Now more than ever, I feel my time away from teaching and I miss it! My work creates such a beautiful sense of balance and fun in my life and really nourishes different aspects of myself. I’m so very grateful to be able to teach yoga. Can’t wait to see all of you! #roamiswheretheheartis
